School-Based Disaster Education: Building Child-Centered Preparedness Culture
Objective
Evaluate impact of age-appropriate disaster risk education on child knowledge, family preparedness, and community culture
Methodology
Quasi-experimental design: (1) Pre/post assessment of 800+ students in intervention vs. control schools; (2) Household surveys on preparedness behaviors; (3) Qualitative interviews on attitude change; (4) Community-level analysis of disaster culture shift; (5) Cost-effectiveness analysis.
Findings
School-based education increased student knowledge 340%. Family preparedness (evacuation plans, emergency kits) increased 65% in intervention communities. Children became "knowledge ambassadors" improving adult preparedness. Cost per person reached: $12-18. Behavior change sustained 2+ years post-intervention.
